Bill is a collaborative and practical security expert with decades of experience defining, shaping, and governing information security strategy for public and private organizations of all sizes. Bill excels at balancing the security priorities of auditors and regulators, customer expectations, and the controls most likely to prevent major attacks. Bill’s specialty is collaborating with the many security stakeholders including finance, legal, technology, and product teams to set a reasonable enterprise-wide security posture. He also has vast experience driving post-merger integration to institute strong controls, blend team talents, and rationalize costs to create a single security foundation. He fosters a culture of security risk management from the shop floor to the C-suite and Board.

As a CISO, Bill led global information security teams conducting assessments and implementing solutions.  He successfully architected and managed the security of a cloud migration project underpinning the product slate.  His leadership covered all areas of security including crisis management, incident response, threat and vulnerability management, security compliance, business continuity, and physical security. As a business leader, Bill has managed complex contracts and large budgets during periods of growth and restructuring.  He is sensitive to building a cost-effective foundation which ensures sustainability and security. His practical sensibility and proven approach creates a calm environment in high stress situations.

Bill graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Business in Management Information Systems and a master’s in education with a Curriculum and Instruction concentration.  He continued his professional development achieving a Chief Risk Officer Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy and holds many security and privacy professional certifications.  He enjoys tennis, travel, and coaching youth swim and baseball teams.
