Markus graduated from the University of Stuttgart with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He continued his studies at the Technical University of Munich where he earned a Masters in Engineering and focused his research on automation control and key performance indicators. Markus later attended Harvard Business School where he completed coursework in strategic negotiation. His notable community leadership includes board governance for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Executive Committee and Audit Committee Chair) and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. In addition, Markus has been an active member of several business and industry groups including the Manufacturers Alliance (formerly MAPI as Chair, CIO section) and the German-American Chamber of Commerce of Pittsburgh. He was awarded CIO of the Year twice by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and honored with its Cyber Security Award. Away from his desk, Markus enjoys swimming, reading, and traveling.
