World-Class Healthcare Technology Award Winner Michael Gogola Joins Fortium’s Healthcare Practice

Dallas, TX – August 12, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Michael Gogola, a transformational technology leader in the healthcare industry with experience leading medical centers such as HCA International, Hermitage Medical Clinic and Satilla Regional Medical Center, has joined the Florida practice of Fortium Partners. Gogola leverages four decades of experience in customizing technology strategy to achieve the competitive advantage for healthcare organizations that want to create a world-class patient experience.

Prior to joining Fortium, Gogola served as the CIO of HCA International, the world’s largest private hospital group operating six world-class hospitals and seven outpatient centers with 900 beds in central London, where he owned all responsibilities for vision, strategy and execution of IT. A notable achievement from his time at HCA International was the implementation of a paperless patient records system across 10 locations. Prior to his tenure at HCA International, Gogola served as CIO of Hermitage Medical Clinic, a 101-bed private hospital and Satilla Regional Medical Center, a 240-bed non-profit acute care hospital, where he provided leadership for information systems, health information management and telecommunications. Gogola also served in senior technology positions for Winchester Hospital, Columbia Healthcare Corporation, and Parkview Episcopal Medical Center. Gogola has been honored with the Henry Ford Health System H.I.T.S. Award and is a three-time recipient of the Hospitals and Health Networks Most Wired Award.

“The healthcare industry is at the height of volatility as it responds to regulatory change and the pressure to improve patient interaction in an environment where security and accessibility are as much of a concern as adequate patient care,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Our healthcare clients must fight to maintain a balance between patient needs, care provider needs and the changes that are occurring within the industry. Michael has been at the forefront of this evolution on a global scale, and understands how a healthcare organization can make the best technology decisions. He’s a powerful addition to the Fortium team.”
“The prevalence of new and exciting healthcare technology allows us to engage the patient in their  healthcare management in a way that wasn’t previously possible, and create closer patient relationships that advance the entire healthcare experience,” said Gogola. “Adapting to these changes may seem difficult, but it doesn’t have to be painful or drawn out. Many healthcare organizations will thrive in the coming years as CIOs, physicians and care providers work together to meet growing needs. The diversity of knowledge encompassed in the Fortium team is impressive, and I’m proud to be a part.”

Throughout his career, Gogola has worked as an adjunct professor in the field of technology for Edison Community College, Pueblo Community College, University of Southern Colorado, Saint Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin. He holds an MBA from Roosevelt University and a BS in business management from the University of Wisconsin.

Cybersecurity Authority Joel Rakow Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX – August 3, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Dr. Joel Rakow, a globally recognized leader in cybersecurity who has been involved in the successful deployment of more than 300 enterprise security systems, has joined the Orange County practice of Fortium Partners. Rakow brings to Fortium a new and unique focus on bridging the gap between physical security operations and today’s cybersecurity tools and tactics. This gap is one of the last overlooked areas in enterprise risk management and requires expert attention to ensure success.

Rakow is a former advisor to the Secret Service and the Los Angeles Electronic Crimes Task Force, as well as a representative member of the FBI InfraGard, Adobe Software’s Advisory Council, and the Receivers Team for the State Courts of California. He has provided executive and technical leadership for hundreds of physical security systems, many combined with cybersecurity protocols, two-factor identification or transparent encrypted data. Rakow has served clients such as Alcoa Fastener Systems, Associate Hospitals of New England, BankBoston, Bristol Industries, Danone-Suntory Waters, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, ICANN, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Dodgers, LA Clippers, Northrop Grumman, MolsonCoors, Planetwide Games, Playboy, Southern Bell, Southern Company, SSP-Litronic, University of Southern California, U.S. Department of Defense and World Shoe Association. He has also developed more than 40 commercially successful software programs and has won numerous industry awards including Microsoft Partner of the Year, PC World Best Product of the Year (three consecutive years) and Great Plains Implementation of the Year.

“When it comes to security, we have learned that if your business becomes a target, there is no perfect defense. You will be breached. Business leaders must learn how to plan and respond in order to achieve a sufficient level of difficulty to prevent breaches in the future,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “After considerable success developing and marketing enterprise software, Joel is dedicated to helping executives manage the risk of their enterprises, with the knowledge that cybersecurity is not just a technical problem with an IT-only solution, it’s one of today’s topmost strategic business initiatives. That’s why he is a powerful addition to Fortium’s Cybersecurity Practice.”
“Any business could be at risk as a cybersecurity target, and in nearly all cases the weakest link in the security chain is the gray area between cybersecurity and physical security. That’s not the type of problem that can be resolved by the IT team alone, nor should it be,” said Rakow. “Fortium Partners specializes in helping companies build a bridge between these silos, and no one else has proven they can do it. It’s difficult to find expertise in this area because not only does it require experience sitting in the C-level hot seat to truly understand the business impact of a security breach, it requires the unique combination of experience as the leader of both cybersecurity as well as physical security.”

Dr. Rakow is a former post-doctoral Fellow at Harvard University, the Harvard Business School and the Program for Education, where he studied after earning his Doctoral Degree from Boston University in technology and learning.

Fortium Partners Welcomes John Mobley - A CIO with a Twist!

Dallas, TX – July 25, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that John Mobley, a C-suite finance and technology leader with three decades of experience leading companies with large scale IT infrastructures, has joined the Florida practice. With long-term experience sitting in both the CFO and CIO seat, Mobley is uniquely positioned to identify how technology decisions can have the greatest impact on revenue.

In his most recent role, Mobley was both the finance technology leader and CFO of Stellar Recovery Inc., a third-party recovery service which manages Fortune 500 client portfolios of $1.2 billion, where he architected and executed solutions that enabled the company to grow revenue 46 percent each year for three years. Before that he was CIO of AFNI Financial Services, a $220 million business process outsourcing and recovery firm where he launched three e-commerce systems using cloud technologies to replace failing legacy systems and increased customer service capacity that resulted in $15 million increase in annual revenues. He was also the CIO for West Corporation and AGL Resources, and a technology and financial leader for CMS Energy and Contel. He served seven years in a consultant role with Deloitte early in his career and also co-founded his own consulting firm where he took on CFO and CIO roles with multiple businesses.

“Our clients often come to us when their technology needs are limiting their profitability, so it’s almost too good to be true to have a C-suite executive on board who can speak to both the finance and technology sides of the business equally well, with the track record to support it,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “John’s experience in dual leadership roles offers clients an uncanny ability to pinpoint exactly which technology decisions will best support revenue growth. The partners at Fortium are looking forward to solving new problems with John on board.”
“Evaluating business growth when there are factors at play like Big Data, Software-as-a-Service, compliance and other issues is tough to wrap your arms around if you don’t have insight into what makes the business tick from both a financial and technology perspective,” said Mobley. “You have to think like an accountant, a project manager, a vendor, an employee and a board director all at once. This is where Fortium Partners excels, and this is why I joined the team. We look at the full picture and deliver to clients the solutions needed to support revenue growth. Fortium has an unbeatable team of skill and experience.”

Mobley holds degrees as a master of professional accountancy and bachelor of business administration from Georgia State University. He is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Project Management Professional and CPA.

Automotive Powerhouse Stephen Pickett Added to Fortium's World-Class Roster

Dallas, TX – July 13, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Stephen Pickett, a technology leader with long-term experience in the C-suite of automotive giants like Penske Corporation, ITT Automotive and Volkswagen, has joined the Detroit and Florida practice.

Prior to joining Fortium, Pickett served for 18 years as CIO at Penske Corporation, a closely-held $26 billion transportation services company where he was responsible for managing technology for businesses operating in more than 3,300 locations that employed more than 50,000 people worldwide. Before Penske, Pickett served as an IT leader for major players in the automotive and manufacturing industries – Volkswagen, ITT Automotive and American Motors – for more than two decades. During his tenure at ITT Automotive, Pickett implemented SAP at more than 50 locations. At Volkswagen, Pickett was responsible for the successful merger of multiple technical computing departments at its headquarters in Germany, where he served as the executive director of IT. He also held the position of President of the national board of the Society for Information Management (SIM), is a member of their Advanced Practices Council and a member of the SIM Detroit board.

“The biggest strength of a CIO with decades of experience in the manufacturing and automotive industry is that they value and respect change. The automotive industry has reinvented itself a number of times in the past few decades and the latest recovery from the recession has brought about more innovation and futuristic projections of how humans interact with technology than ever,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Steve is on the forefront of today’s biggest innovations, like the Internet of Things, self-driving vehicles and contract negotiation for the next phase of Software-as-a-Service. He’s a masterful architect of technology solutions and the partners at Fortium are thrilled to have him on board.”
“Businesses today require so much protection from external forces. Networks have to be secure from hackers. Software and service contract negotiation has become an entirely new skill as more leaders are looking at short-term contracts and new dialogues with suppliers. The simple reality is that you can no longer own and control every minute aspect of the business, and that can be tough to swallow for many companies,” said Pickett. “Fortium Partners is a good fit for me because I work with clients who are truly seeking my specific experience, and the partners collaborate closely on every opportunity. Fortium fills a technology gap that seems to be increasing as technology evolves.”

Pickett holds a bachelor of science in Computer Science and an MBA from the Advanced Management Program, both from Michigan State University.

He was recognized as a finalist in the 2015 Bay Area CIO of the Year for Innovation and Business Transformation and is the recipient of the 2012 InfoWeek 500 award and the 2013 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders award.

“CIOs of global companies have the daunting task to make the planet seem much smaller, by ensuring businesses have the technology resources that allow team members to connect across oceans and borders without interruption. Tom was at the forefront of cloud computing and global collaboration before they became buzzwords, and his numerous awards prove his commitment to innovation and business transformation,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “His style of CIO leadership is precisely the type we seek out here at Fortium because our clients need the forward marketplace mobility that Tom instinctually envisions. We’re delighted to add his expertise to the Fortium team.”
“Innovative technology can be deployed to break down the barriers of geography and traditional power structures, allowing more engagement and collaboration toward meeting enterprise goals,” said Gill. “I joined Fortium because the diversity of the clientele presents so many opportunities for engaging with technology in exciting ways in an effort to solve new and different problems. I’m excited to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best technology minds in the business.”

Earlier in his career, Gill served in technology leadership roles with Bay Networks and Tandem Computers. He holds a bachelor of science in business information systems from San Diego State University and serves as a board member for CrowdMics.

Cloud-based Business Services Innovator James Beattie Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX – July 7, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that James Beattie, a technology veteran with a track record of innovative product development in transformational industries, has joined the Florida and Chicago practices. His industry background in insurance, transportation and the publishing and new media industries helps him guide businesses through progressive change.

Prior to joining Fortium, Beattie served a decade as the CTO of CCC Information Services, the industry leader in automotive claims and repair services handling the majority of all automotive claims in the U.S. through a network of more than 350 insurance companies and 20,000 repair providers. During his tenure, organic annual revenue grew from $160 million to $250 million. He led a combined staff of more than 400 and a budget in excess of $65 million. Before CCC, Beattie served as CTO of Britannica.com, the global leader of educational publishing products and a pioneer in digital publishing. Prior to Britannica, he was vice president of engineering and new media services at a startup, Infonautics Corporation, a forerunner in providing personalized information agents and websites including Electric Library, Encyclopedia.com and NewsDirectory.com to improve access and quality of digital literacy to inner city schools. Earlier in his career, Beattie held key technology leadership roles at Prodigy, Pitney Bowes, Savin Corporation and IBM.

“Technology leaders who have been in the C-suite for multiple decades have led this incredible shift in how businesses handle data and use technology to advance the organization. Fearless CTOs like Jim created the way many do business today by guiding large corporations through calculated risks to move to the cloud, create more open source environments and embrace new security measures,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Fortium Partners retains leaders with powerful backgrounds because they have the type of confidence and know-how to achieve transformations that can only be obtained by sitting in that C-suite seat and developing the instinct for success.”
“One of the biggest trends occurring today is that many businesses that sold a certain type of product or service for decades are now, essentially, technology companies. A transportation company is a technology company because buses and trains rely on technology to operate. Most energy and utility companies can no longer operate without technology infrastructures to support them. A growing number of organizations depend entirely upon their websites to survive. Business leaders who refuse to recognize this transformation have huge gaps,” said Beattie. “I joined Fortium Partners because, collectively, we can use our direct, hands-on experience as C-level executives to help guide the next generation of business to success with less technology angst.”

Beattie holds a bachelor of arts in psychology from Iona College and a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.

Global CIO Advisor Gail Holmberg Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX – July 1, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Gail Holmberg, an established technology leader in consumer-facing industries including industry giants such as Bally Total Fitness, Sears, Roebuck & Company and The Quaker Oats Company, has joined the Chicago practice of Fortium Partners. Holmberg has nearly 35 years of IT leadership experience in the consumer products, retail and service industries.

Throughout her career, Holmberg has transformed the way retailers do business. Prior to joining Fortium, Holmberg was CIO of Bally Total Fitness, which was the nation’s eminent fitness chain with more than 420 facilities, 25,000 employees and 4 million members during her tenure. She directed the overall technology strategy and conducted a three-year business transformation project resulting in a more cost effective, supportable technology platform. Before Bally, she was the divisional CIO of administration systems for Sears, Roebuck & Company, where she owned all facets of technology and infrastructure support for $1 billion commercial sales as well as corporate HR, finance and legal departments. Prior to Sears, Holmberg was manager of transaction processing, systems support and IT at The Quaker Oats Company, where she led the systems integration strategy for more than 35 applications.

“Consumer-facing industries sit on the economic epicenter of technology’s continued advance. As Big Data and the Internet of Things continue to gain traction as the core of retail strategy, executives at these companies know that without well-planned technology infrastructure and systems in place, they will be quickly overcome by the competition,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Gail is a CIO who knows how to transform the way service providers and retailers do business, driving process and organizational optimization through creative uses of technology strategy, and overall, keeping the businesses she works with on the cutting edge. I look forward to seeing our retail and service clients prosper with her navigational leadership. She’s the right fit for our growing team.”
“The power of the Fortium brand stems from the understanding that clients have access to the combined knowledge of a network of seasoned technology experts,” said Holmberg. “It’s a tremendous competitive advantage over the sole practitioner model or the traditional Big Four model of consulting. I enjoy a strong direct partnership in driving the business goals while working with partners who can bring new perspectives to client strategies.”

Holmberg holds a masters of public administration from Harvard University and a bachelor of arts in communications from Illinois State University. She proudly serves on the boards of the Woman Made Gallery and the Society for Information Management – Chicago Chapter and is the co-founder of Senior Women in Technology.

Acclaimed Ivy League and Higher Education CIO Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX -- April 28, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of technology turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Greg Jackson, a highly specialized technology leader and advisor of higher education institutions like Harvard, Stanford, MIT and the University of Chicago, has joined the Mid-Atlantic practice of Fortium Partners. Jackson uses his 30 years of experience in data analytics, public policy and higher education to support policy development and program management for clients seeking opportunities and collaboration in the higher education niche.

Jackson spent more than a dozen years combined as a faculty member for Stanford University and Harvard University teaching research methods and analytic strategies before he migrated to technology administration at MIT, where he managed the Athena computing environment. After MIT, he served for 13 years as CIO of the University of Chicago, where he was responsible for the university’s $75 million, 400-person central technology organization. He then ventured into the policy side as vice president of policy for EDUCAUSE, a non-profit association whose mission is to advance higher education through technology. Most recently, Jackson served as vice president for university outreach with NBCUniversal, where he developed new programs to improve relationships between higher education and the entertainment industry.

“The academic arena places unique demands on the higher-education CIO because their broad constituencies include faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, prospective students, parents and even policymakers, often with far fewer resources than the corporate CIO,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Greg draws on a wealth of experience leading campus information technology and advocating on national policy issues at some of our nation’s most renowned institutions. If it’s related to higher education, he’s the best advisor any client could ask for, and that’s why we’re enthusiastic that he’s joined the Fortium team.”
“Fortium Partners understands that whatever is true about technology in a corporate market is amplified and amended in an educational environment. The era of technology control is over because faculty, students and alumni all have different needs and options for meeting them, and they will find a way to meet those needs with or without their institution’s help. I’ve faced that, and I know how to show institutions how to tackle it,” said Jackson. “I find the Fortium model attractive because unlike consulting firms, we see no need to provide a busload of consultants to solve problems. We provide direct support at the leadership level to those who must impact an organization the most, which makes much more sense for CIOs at our level.”

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and History from MIT and an Ed.D. in Statistics and Research Methods from Harvard.

Fortune 100 Global Technology Executive Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX -- April 12, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Jorge Cornejo, a proven technology leader with years of experience managing global teams for companies like Delphi Systems Worldwide, Volkswagen and Meggitt PLC, has joined the Detroit practice of Fortium Partners. Cornejo has more than 25 years of IT leadership experience in the manufacturing, automotive and aerospace and defense industries.

Prior to joining Fortium, Cornejo was the senior director of global programs for Meggitt PLC, a global engineering group specializing in extreme environment components and smart sub-systems for aerospace, defense and energy markets, where he oversaw the management of the global integrated program plan across 50 sites worldwide. Before Meggitt, Cornejo spent more than a decade with Delphi Systems Worldwide, a global supplier of vehicle technology. Cornejo trekked around the globe in his progressive roles at Delphi, which included a stint as Director of SAP European COE, where he held overall responsibility for all SAP systems in Europe, and CIO of Delphi Asia Pacific, where he represented all of IT strategy for the region. Earlier in his career, he was the IT internal business consultant for Volkswagen of America and Volkswagen Canada. He also held some high-profile automotive consulting roles with Ernst & Young.

“The decline and resurgence of the automotive industry, and manufacturing in general over the past decade, has been a hot topic for everyone from global economists to high-ranking politicians. Executives at these companies know that without well-planned logistics, finance and technology systems in place, we wouldn’t be discussing the industry’s resilience today,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Jorge is a CIO who knows how to manage chaos in a large, high-growth manufacturing environment and he can also implement organizational change management when plans go awry. I’m looking forward to seeing our manufacturing clients thrive with his guidance. He’s the right fit for our growing team.”
“Fortium Partners is different from other consulting firms because there’s absolutely no pressure to use clients as a training ground for a full team of inexperienced consultants. At Fortium, we are all deeply experienced CIOs, and each of us directly engages with clients who need the specific experience we bring as a fully neutral party,” said Cornejo. “It’s a fresh approach to consulting, and frankly it’s rewarding to share our experiences and war stories with fellow CIOs and other executives at businesses experiencing major transitions. I’m thrilled to join the Fortium team.”

Cornejo holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Lima. He’s also fluent in English and Spanish.

Retail and Gaming Authority Joins Fortium Partners

Dallas, TX -- March 31, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, today announced that Tom Beauchamp, a transformational CIO with multiple successes turning around underperforming IT organizations, has joined the National Retail Practice of Fortium Partners. Beauchamp brings more than 30 years of technology leadership experience in retail, online and gaming, for a number of major brands.

Prior to Fortium, Beauchamp was interim CIO at David Yurman where he restructured the Oracle ERP and cloud HR implementations, and updated cybersecurity. He has been CIO at Hot Topic, a mall and web-based specialty retailer, where he restructured the IT organization to enable store growth of 48% over five years, and increased online revenues from under 5% to over 25% of total revenue. Beauchamp has served as CIO for a variety of additional household brands including Limited Stores, Montgomery Ward, Woolworth, and Columbia House. Beauchamp was also CIO of Penn National Gaming, where he implemented the Marquee Rewards national loyalty program. During his tenure, total revenue increased by 26% and corporate technology expenses decreased by 21%.

“You don’t have to be a CIO to know what keeps retailers up at night. Big Data and security issues among retailers are mainstream news, and many are still woefully unprepared for what’s coming next,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “Tom has such a deep and varied experience with retail and gaming companies that he’s seen it all at least twice. He has the know-how to help retailers discover the most important business metrics and use them to their advantage without the need for a complete corporate overhaul. He’s the perfect addition to Fortium’s National Retail Practice.”
“Data integrity and data security have such a high level of visibility right now for retailers, from the consumer level to the corporate board level, and it’s not diminishing anytime soon,” said Beauchamp. “Security is now a regular topic at board meetings, signaling a significant shift in corporate behavior that retailers must proactively address. Fortium’s consulting model allows me to offer guidance to businesses of any size that would like to get ahead of the curve. The National Retail Practice is a great fit for me.”
“Tom’s long tenure as a CIO in Retail at multiple major brands demonstrates the high performance, trust and national reputation that complement our Retail practice. He brings a wealth of business intelligence, loyalty and analytics expertise that can deliver quick impact and built-in return on investment for our retail clients.” said Fortium’s National Retail Practice Leader Dave Manigold. “We are also excited about many ways he can bring lasting impact to our clients by delivering the same business technology and organizational acumen that led to successful turnarounds of multiple IT organizations”.

Beauchamp has served as a director of several boards including the National Retail Federation, Retail Information Systems Advisory Board, and the Gaming Standards Association. He holds an MBA from California State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands.
