Technology Turnaround Expert Joins Fortium

Dallas, TX February 23, 2016 – FORTIUM PARTNERS, the world’s fastest-growing provider of IT turnaround and leadership services, announced today that technology transformation expert Christopher Kohn has joined Fortium Partners in the New Jersey area. Kohn brings more than 25 years of experience performing IT turnarounds and creating disciplined organizations, proactive teams, processes and systems.

Prior to joining Fortium, Kohn was the COO for Holtzbrinck Publishers, the world’s largest academic, science, education and trade book publishers in 50 countries, where he led the newly formed global IT business operations and aligned multiple divisional IT groups under a unified global technology division. He entered this role after serving seven years as CIO of Macmillan Publishers, where he held costs down to 6% annual increases over three years while supporting revenue growth of 12%, turned around the digital college textbook eProduct development in just 12 months, implemented the company’s security program and processes and developed a strategic global virtualization initiative covering 95% of servers, saving nearly $2 million in the first 12 months. He also built from scratch a best-in-class quality assurance department, and has implemented numerous QA programs throughout his career. Before Macmillan Publishers, Kohn managed the global eProduct development team for Reed Business Information, where he shortened the production cycle by 30%, reduced sales lead costs by $400,000 in one year and delivered an eCommerce platform that helped eliminate $1 million in fees.

“With his deep background in publishing, Chris was an active technology leader during the industry’s migration from print manufacturing to digital distribution of content, which is similar to what companies in many industries are experiencing today as they make the shift to digital consumerism and cloud-based services,” said Tim McCracken, Fortium Chairman and CEO. “His global experience using technology to drive a struggling business forward will be valuable for many of our clients in IT turnaround situations.”
“The need for speed and technology in growing businesses is palpable. So many vendors are touting cloud-based services as an absolute necessity, or the importance of investing in the latest platforms. Clients must accept that programs and platforms aren’t key to the strategy because the product itself is the key,” said Kohn. “You may not be able to run a modern business without IT, but each business can leverage different aspects of technology to save cash, gain efficiencies and access new market opportunities. My partners at Fortium and I have spent most of our careers doing just that, so I know I’m in good company.”

Early in his career, Kohn served as the Director of Systems Development for Cendant Corporation and Penguin/Putnam Publishing.

Kohn holds an MBA in Finance and Investments from George Washington University and a BA in Finance and Economics from Rutgers University. He is an active member and volunteer of the Executive Board Society for Information Management (SIM).
